Steam does not get better in quality after it leaves the boilers or
let down stations (pressure reducing stations). This itself is not the
problem for steam quench since the steam needs only to prevent the presence
of air in the seal chamber. What can be a problem is that condensate
enters the seal chamber in fluid form and flashes. Wet steam would only
dry up in an environment with a temperature over 140 °C. Condensate
on the other hand will flash and create pressure shocks that damage
the spring and seal.
